From Flood Waters to Forever Homes

My love affair with cats didn't begin in a cattery — it began in a crisis. During the Great Flood of Baton Rouge in 2016, I found myself searching for a kitten to bring some joy to my daughter, and somehow, that simple act of love opened a door I never knew existed.

One fostering litter at the local animal shelter later, and I was absolutely, hopelessly hooked.

Over the next nine years, I welcomed nearly 500 cats and kittens into my home. People would always say, "I could never foster — I'd want to keep them all!" But I discovered something surprising early on: my greatest joy wasn't in keeping them. It was in nurturing them back to health and handing them off to the families who would love them forever.

My fostering years started with moms and kittens, but eventually I became the go-to for what I lovingly call "the bruised, not broken" — the special needs cases that others might pass by. Amputees, blind babies, eye enucleations, severe emaciation, mystery illnesses, burns, attack wounds. If the case was complicated, I was ready.

In 2019, a local cat show introduced me to the world of the Cat Fancy, and everything shifted again. My research shattered some myths along the way — ethical breeders, it turns out, are far more common than shelter culture would have you believe. My heart felt a new pull: what if I could preserve and better a breed?

For four years I studied, researched, and prepared. I chose the Toyger for their stunning beauty, playful and loyal personalities, and because as a still-evolving breed, they deserve thoughtful, serious stewardship.

At GeauxToygers, slow and methodical is the name of the game. Every kitten that leaves our home should give as much love as they receive — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We're so glad you're here for the journey. 🐯
